Born in 1966 on the east coast of Virginia, where he now lives with his wife and their young children, Scott's interest in art emerged when he was a young child. His early studies in nature helped fuel his love for art and the art of creating. He has studied with and has shown work with some of the finest artist in the world. "When I was younger, I made it a point to never study the techniques of my favorite artists. It was important to me to allow my own unique style to emerge with limited outside influence".
Scott has a particular interest in Nature. From the animals who share this planet with us to their natural environment. "Nature is the most powerful force on this planet, with my art I try and convey to others just how beautiful and powerful it truly is". Indeed, the powerful and timeless beauty of Scott's paintings are due in large measure to his ability to capture the spirit of the person, animal, or place. The eyes hold a particular interest in most of Scott's work. "When I look into the eyes of an animal you can literally feel the intelligence that dwells inside".
His sense of intimacy and honesty with regard to his subjects are a direct result of his closeness and
love for them. When I look at Scott's paintings, I tend to get absorbed in them, they seem to be saying so much to me that sometimes it's hard for me to look away. Scott is considered to be, at least in his wife's opinion, one of the greatest colored pencil artist alive today.
About his own work Scott has said, "My goal as an artist is to help the viewer feel connected with something larger than him or herself, to give the viewer a feeling of unity with the force that created us all".
